These glasses are very pretty but not very hardy. Out of a set of 8, I only have three left. I handwash all my dishes and all five glasses broke as I washed them. Would not recommend. It doesn't break, chip, or even discolor, but the base has a compound kick (depression on the outside and protrusion on the inside. This makes a very messy exit from the dishwasher and precludes removal of debris on the inside.
Why hasn't any one noticed? Where's the reviews? I own a dishwasher (gee-) and this is a very irritating function-having to drain the glass, dry again, and place in my cabinent-geez!
Don't buy it unless you have maids and butlers. The again don't buy it because they'll get miffed too!

So we've had these glasses for over 6 months now and there hasn't been a single broken glass from washing or dropping.
These are our everday glasses and we love them. With the solid base they have a heavy look but the sides of the glass are thinner, making the glass feel lighter than you would expect (I've never thought that the glass seems too thin, in fact it seems just right). The curves at the bottom of the glass feel heavenly and within our set you can feel variations in shape so it seems like the glasses have some character.
Now I wash the glasses by hand (we have no dishwasher except for me) and I haven't had a problem. Then again I'm a slothful cleaner so it is rare that I ever drink something cold and then wash the glass in hot water. It's my understanding that doing so causes expansion and contraction, which weakens the glass and will eventually cause it to break (I guess my chemistry teacher's imploring us not to cool the glass beakers too quickly stuck with me). Mainly I wait for them to dry/cool off before I wash them and when I do an immediate rinse after drinking I always use a water temperature that is appropriate (e.g. cold water rinse for a cold glass).
I think if you use some common sense these glasses can last for a long time and given their price, even if they don't it's not too big a deal. They're great for everday use and they'd be great for a home bar setup.

My wife and I purchased this set two years ago at a department store. Now they are all gone. It is funny that I came to site and found other people's comments about how fragile this set is. They are all correct. These broke so easily, although I have to say they are good looking glasses. Well, our search for a stronger set of glasses continues. For others, I just want to say, "Fragile".
